OAKLAND, Calif. – June 24, 2008 – Livescribe Inc. , the company synonymous with introducing the world’s first Pulse smartpen, today announced that John Carter has joined the company as chief technology officer. In this role, Carter will oversee Livescribe’s hardware and software technology divisions.
“John’s extensive technology experience and his drive to successfully elevate start-up companies to household names, as well advise some of the country’s most successful businesses makes him the perfect addition to our executive team,” said Jim Marggraff, Livescribe founder and chief executive officer. “We’ll count on his expertise to ensure Livescribe’s smartpen technology continues to advance and lead the industry.”
An industry leader and technologist, Carter has spent more than 15 years building, advising and cultivating some of technology’s biggest players. Prior to Livescribe, Carter held various executive-level positions, including chief executive officer of TCGen, a boutique advisory firm, chief technology officer of Klipsch Audio and chief executive officer of NetLens (acquired by NextPage). Carter also served as the founder and a principal of Boston-based Product Development Consulting Inc. (PDC), a leading organization in advising Fortune 500 companies in the areas of research, development, and marketing, where he implemented operational improvements with clients such as Cisco Systems, Hewlett Packard, IBM, Tektronix, and 3M. Before starting PDC, Carter was chief engineer of Bose Corporation and managed the development of technologies such as the Acoustic Wave Music System, Lifestyle Home Theatre, QuietComfort™ Acoustic Noise Cancelling Headset and others. Carter was instrumental in Bose's entry into the automobile OEM business and led the product and business development of Bose's patented noise reduction technology.
“Livescribe has created a transformative technology that is quickly creating a new category in consumer electronics – smartpens,” said Carter. “I enjoy working with companies, like Livescribe, that have identified a gap to fill and set out to tackle the void with nothing more than an idea, innovation, creativity and a little sweat equity. I’m honored to be at Livescribe and working side by side a high caliber executive team.”
